The introduction of the so-called Secure Gateway Module, or SGW for short, by Fiat Chrysler has severely restricted the functionality of commercially available multi-brand testers. Initially, this IT security measure was intended to protect sensitive data, but it also led to the OBD being encrypted, which prevents Fiat Chrysler models from being read. As a result, TOPDON has entered into a partnership with Fiat Chrysler to enable the diagnosis of their vehicles, despite the Secure Gateway Module.
