SLAMTEC RPLIDAR A2M12 360° Laser Range Scan Triangular Ranging 12m lidar Mapper Rplidar A2 Scanner Kit sensor measurement tool

Product Description
The rplidar a2m12 is the next-generation, cost-effective 360-degree 2D laser scanner (lidar) solution developed by slamtec. It can take up to 16,000 laser samples per second at high rotation speeds. Equipped with slamtec's patented optmag technology, it breaks the lifespan limitation of traditional lidar systems and ensures long-term stable operation.
The system can perform 2D 360-degree scanning within a 12-meter range. The generated 2D point cloud data can be used for imaging, localization, and object/environment modeling.
The typical sampling frequency of the rplidar a2m12 is 10 Hz (600 rpm), and the frequency can be freely adjusted within a range of 5 to 15 Hz according to specific requirements. At a sampling frequency of 10 Hz, the sampling rate is 16 kHz and the angular resolution is 0.225°.

Due to improvements in Slamtec's hardware performance and related algorithms, the Rplidar A2M12 operates well in all types of indoor and outdoor environments without direct sunlight. Before leaving the factory, each Rplidar A2M12 has passed rigorous testing to ensure that the laser output meets the IEC 60825 Class 1 eye protection standard.

System Connection
The Rplidar A2M12 consists of a range scanner core and the mechanical drive part that rotates the core at high speed. When operating normally, the scanner rotates and scans clockwise. Users can receive range scan data via the Rplidar's communication interface and control the start, stop, and rotation speed of the rotary motor via PWM.

The Rplidar A2M12 features a speed detection and adaptive system. The system automatically adjusts the angular resolution according to the actual rotating speed. There's no need to provide a complicated power system for Rplidar. Thus, the simple power supply scheme saves BOM costs. When the actual speed of the Rplidar is required, the host system can obtain the relevant data via the communication interface.

Mechanism
The Rplidar A2M12 is based on the laser triangulation ranging principle and adopts high-speed vision acquisition and processing hardware developed by Slamtec. The system ranges more than 16,000 times per second. During each ranging process, the Rplidar emits a modulated infrared laser signal, which is then reflected by the object to be detected. The returning signal is then sampled by the vision system in Rplidar, and the DSP embedded in Rplidar begins processing the sampled data and outputs the distance and angle values between the object and Rplidar via the communication interface.

While traveling through the motor system, the area scanner core rotates clockwise and performs a 360-degree scan of the current environment.

Application Scenarios
Rplidar can be used in the following application scenarios:
General robot navigation and localization
Environmental scanning and 3D remodeling
Service robots or industrial robots working for long hours
Navigation and localization of home service/cleaning robots
General simultaneous localization and mapping (SLAM)
Localization and obstacle avoidance for smart toys
